long pose figurative class (9 weeks) quarterly

The goal of this class is to train the comparative eye, focusing on gesture, shapes, and value. Students enrolled in painting will be using a limited palette with a large focus on mixing, squinting and organizing your palette as well as developing their shapes, values and edges.
Class Schedule runs quarterly. Typically Tuesdays- Thursdays 3 days a week, 10- 1 pm. Specifics may change based on models availability. A finalized schedule will be posted with every new quarter.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
- This is a comparative drawing and painting class open to beginning, intermediate, and advanced students.
- Gesture drawing will be implemented at the start of each session with 3 minute poses for the 1st 25 minutes.
- Following the gesture drawing is the long pose that will be set for the duration of the 9 weeks.

9 sessions 10am-1pm

The goal of this class is to train the comparative eye, focusing on measuring, proportions of the head/features and maintaining/ capturing likeness. The class is broke down into 2 categories monochromatic and limited color palettes. It is strongly recommended for beginners to use graphite.

monochromatic

Students wanting to work monochromatic can pick from graphite, charcoal or toned drawing.

graphite - nothing harder then 2b pencils kneaded erasure and Bristol board 11x14 is adequate

charcoal- white canson mi tientes , nitram vine charcoal,

charcoal and chalk- canson mi tientes middle toned variant, charcoal and chalk

Color

Students wanting to use color can participate using pastel or oil paint.

Pastel -mi tentes middle toned paper; conte pastel pencils and prisma color nu pastels. It’s not necessary to bring anything larger than a 12 set to begin with.

-2 limited pallets will be offered for oil painting students: Triadic (alizarine crimson, ultra marine blue cad yellow & white) or a temperature palette

(ultra marine blue, burnt sienna & white)

Triadic color palette- students will be thought how to see, mix, control and organize their color relationships deliberately without the conventional browns typically used.

Temperature palette- students will learn to see/recognize color by way of: shape, value and chroma intensity represented using complementary colors -ultramarine blue and burnt sienna.

-supplies needed- painting pallet, paper towels, bristle brushes a range of rounds/filberts , mineral spirits for cleaning and painting surface to paint on, linen boards or canvas is recommended.
